Volution Group plc (LSE: FAN), has announced today that it welcomes the latest joint report by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Royal College of Physicians on the health impact of indoor air quality (IAQ) on children and young people in the UK. According to the report ‘The inside story: Health effects of indoor air quality on children and young people’ there is growing evidence that respiratory problems among children may be exacerbated by indoor air pollution in homes, schools and nurseries. This landmark report is supported by a raft of research confirming the importance of good indoor air quality and illustrates how ventilation is being driven up the agenda as a solution to indoor air pollution.

Involving a systematic review of 221 studies, this comprehensive report shows evidence linking indoor air pollution to childhood health problems, including: asthma, wheezing, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, and eczema. Meanwhile, the report cites effective ventilation as an important tool in combatting this indoor air pollution. With Volution Group’s ventilation division including fifteen established brands, the Group is well placed to provide the products and services to meet the challenges posed by indoor air pollution.

Confirming the significance of IAQ’s impact on health the Royal Colleges’ report calls for a cross-governmental committee to co-ordinate working in health, environment, education and homes for indoor air quality and recommends developing a national strategy and policy for IAQ. The strategy should designate a Government Cabinet lead on the issue of IAQ and there should be steps to raise public awareness and understanding. There is also a recommendation for the inclusion of IAQ within Air Quality plans mandated by Government.

The report also calls for revisions to Building Regulations including setting legally binding performance standards for IAQ. These recommendations are set to further drive the uptake of ventilation products.

At Volution we are committed to improving indoor air quality and so public health, which is firmly embedded in our strategic rationale when it comes to our ventilation design and growth,” explains Richard Paine, Marketing Director at Volution. “Until now outdoor air pollution has been at the forefront of air pollution debates. However, the Royal Colleges’ report changes this by confirming the vital link between IAQ and health, as well as the significant role ventilation plays in improving air quality. At Volution we are aligned with the findings of the report and are ready to meet this challenge
